Medical Aromatherapy

Medical Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a form of herbal medicine which uses the essential oils of plants to heal the body and mind. Aromatherapy affects our psychological state, creating calmness or alertness, concentration or relaxation as anyone can attest to after smelling a rose or peppermint oil.Contrary to popular opinion, aromatherapy does not have to be inhaled to be effective. Aromatherapy is a type of treatment and not a system of medicine. It used in most systems of treatments. Physicians regularly used aromatherapy up until the 1950’s. Lavender and peppermint essential oils are still recognized as drugs by the FDA to this day. Many products you use everyday have essential oils in them, such as toothpaste, Gold Bond ointment®, Vic’s Vaporub® and Listerine® mouthwash.

Essential oils are the essence of the plant. Essential oils are how plants heal themselves when sick and how they defend themselves against invading insects and essential oils help it reproduce.
Aromatherapy has been shown in dozens of clinical studies to work on the nervous system as well as on hormones and muscles.

What happens during an Aromatherapy session?
Aromatherapy recognizes the strong mind-body connection in illness, that chronic stress and negative emotions can impact the body in a negative way and cause disease. During a session, the clinical aromatherapist gets to know you as a person rather than simply catalogue a list of symptoms and treat a disease.
Because all essential oils have a smell, and everyone has different preferences, the clinical aromatherapist will customize an aromatherapy treatment to the physical, aesthetic (scent preference) and psychological needs of the client. •    Stress, Migraine Headaches
